CHECK OUT THE MINI VIDS OF YESTERDAYS RUN AND SIGN WAVING FOLLOWING HIM

This is the whole video produced for his run around the island. You can see most of the launching ceremony. People are staying to the left of the monk seal sign. You can see that the seal is not being run over by the canoe, as the entire launching going into the water is shown. You can also see that there are at least a hundred people there, not only Dustin Barca supporters, but at least several dozen visitors that had no idea what was going on. As you can see, this was locals, local people hand Hawaiians. All who have the utmost respect for Monk seals, including Barca himself.  TO try and put up a 60op second video clip, and say that Barca was "Harassing" a seal, with so many people there as witnesses is sheer stupidity.

KAUA'I—Dustin Barca has started his circle island run and will continue today on the longest section of his 4 day journey. The event will bring out supporters as part of his bid for Mayor in the 2014 elections while paying tribute to and connecting with people, ‘aina and cultural sites of Kaua‘i. It was a historical day on Kaua‘i as Barca and his crew launched their 3-man traditional sailing canoe at Ke‘e, surrounded by ‘ohana who sent him off with pule (Hawaiian prayer) and oli (Hawaiian chant). Barca feels a strong kuleana (responsibility) to the Hawaiian culture and people being that he was hanai (raised) by generational families of North, Kaua‘i. This upbringing taught him many valuable lessons in life including how to care for the ‘aina (land, that which feeds you) and how the ‘aina can also take care of you in return, It was a memorable day for all involved.

To quote Dustin about the start of his journey, “It was such a powerful sendoff. In Hawai’i you are sent ho‘ailona (signs) when you do good. We were surrounded by many ho‘ailona today. I’m very thankful for that and to my ‘ohana island wide for showing up at both ends of our island to support our vision for Kaua‘i and our keiki.”

“The conditions while sailing the Na Pali Coast were not ideal but we had a solid crew, made smart, bold decisions in unity and were able to reach our destination with great timing. I believe the serious issues our county faces (the recent decrease in our credit rating and depleted savings, severe coral die offs, pesticides in our rivers and streams island wide and more development without sound infrastructure) can be solved much like the way we sail, paddle and navigate our wa‘a (canoe).”

Shortly after he was greeted by ‘ohana on the shores of Polihale, Barca began his run to Waimea town where there were relay races and prizes sponsored by local shops for all the keiki in attendance. On May 30 Barca will make his way to Lihu‘e. He will then host ‘ohana night at Lihu‘e Bowling Center from 6-930pm, a free event for the community.

On the 31st he will continue this journey with another Keiki Fun Run at the Kapa‘a Beach Park from 12-3pm. He will then end the day at Kilauea Community Association Art Night, where he will speak in his home town. After concluding his run to Ke‘e on the morning of June 1, Barca invites everyone to Hanalei Park from 2-8pm to celebrate this journey with a campaign kickoff pa‘ina (Hawaiian Style Party) including food, a keiki fun run and entertainment by local musician Makua Rothman and others.

Aloha, fellow snarkists. Today, is a very special edition. We are suspending our usual papa'a roasting of Joan Conrow and all of the usual snarky suspects, and bring to you a very special edition, today. We will be going pretty much snark free, to give you the latest news about the incredible run of Dustin Barca for Mayor of Kauai. This young father, husband, community leader and w3orld renowned athlete, who has taken things into his own hands, and decided to run as an Independent candidate for the Mayor of the Island of Kauai, in Hawaii. Now, us, being Kaua'i people, we were thrilled to hear that he would be running surfing, paddling the ENTIRE ISLAND this weekend. But to be honest, we thought he was going to get super tired yesterday. He didn't, and he finished, after running from Lihu'e to Kilauea with only ONE STOP along the way in Kapaa for his event at Kapaa Beach-park, and sign waving. Kauai Snarklectic crews were there to catch all of the action, and even do a little sign-waving ourselves.

Contrary to popular beleif, almost 90 percent of the signwavers were Hawaiian, part Hawaiian, Born and raised on Kauai, or attached to those who were. The Hawaiians were out in force!.IT was an AMAZING day, but it began, a few days ago. We bring you pics, links to the real lime vids, and tons of links. So, sit back, relax and enjoy EVERYTHING BARCA!

You can jloin him today, as he makes his final lap, fromKilauea to Ke'e with a giganormous pa'ina in Hanalei afterwards! Tired of only going to Hanalei for funerals? Then grab up your ohana, and head on down there today, and join the entire isloand in celebrating this momentous feat!.

And now, for CHOCOLATEY FREE GOODNESS, right here, at Kauai Snarklectic. Let your friends know!

GOGO BARCA!

Aloha, and don't forget to SUPPORT DUSTIN BARCA FOR MAYOR OF KAUA'I

OK, Snarkists here are the rules. You need to show your real name. Or we just ban you. We don't do anon posting here. So you need to have a legit ID.Don't like it, too bad. We don't moderate here. We just simply ban you. All you can do, is take a chance, and see if your post survives to make it onto the blog. But life is a gamble, isn't it? Kinda like when you posted your first snarky comment, kinda gave you a rush, huh? Just think of this in the same way.

Happy Snarkin!
